On November 4, 2012 we were excited to welcome 8 new members to our church as they were baptized upon the profession of their faith in Jesus Christ.  A warm welcome to Ellen, Angela, Cheyenne, Christen, Tia, Dazie, Deidra and Keyaunna.  We love you!

The church voted to once again have Vacation Bible School during summer 2013. The dates are TBA - please be in prayer as we make plans for VBS.

On Sunday, February 17th we hosted our annual Valentine's Day banquet. Once again, the youth served their families and the church family a wonderful meal. We appreciate Miss Patty's hard work and dedication to the details and planning and all of the others who helped to make this a success.
Unfortunately, although Patty and Debbie both brought our cameras, we forgot to take any pictures :(

On December 19th we had our annual Christmas Program. This year's program was "Christmas Miracles" and it depicted the miracle of the birth of Christ as well as the miracles that Jesus is still performing in the lives of people today.

After many years of service, the church furnaces were no longer able to heat the church.  They have been replaced by more efficient (and quiet) units.  Thank you to all who have donated to help with the expense.

On Saturday, December 8th a group of 26 adults and youth from our church attended "A Night in Bethlehem" hosted by Cobden 1st Baptist Church.  This was our second time attending this annual event and everyone had a great time.

The parking lot behind the church was resurfaced at the end of summer 2012.  It looks so much better - and is safer without the potholes!

September & October:  A Busy Time!
The youth are having youth revival services October 18th through 20th at 6 PM nightly and Sunday morning, Oct. 21st at 10:30
AM. Plans are incomplete, but we do know that the evangelist is Daniel Money from Vienna, Illinois and Friday evening worship will be lead by "Brothers From Another Mother." On Saturday, worship will be led by "Fare Thee Well."
These are the plans for each day of the revival:
THURSDAY, OCT. 18: Chili supper at 5 PM, service begins at 6 PM. Brent and Angie Gordon's church (Olive Branch 1st Methodist) will lead the music.
FRIDAY, OCT. 19: Service begins at 6 PM, Jacob McGill will lead the music, bonfire after service (hot dogs, s'mores)
SATURDAY, OCT. 20: Organized Mass Chaos game at 5:30, service at 6 PM, pizza after the service
SUNDAY, OCT. 21: Service begins at 10:30 AM, potluck meal after service (no need for guests to bring food)

We definitely are not all YOUTH, but if you aren't blessed by the preaching and by worshiping with these
young people, you may want to check your pulse!

We have quite a few things on the calendar for September and October. The youth have been learning the books of the New Testament and they were rewarded with a trip to DQ on September 22nd for their successful efforts. After that, we went to the park and enjoyed the beautiful day.

On Sunday, September 30th there was a church potluck after morning services. This was our first opportunity to enjoy our enlarged and remodeled kitchen. Thank you, Pastor Raymond, for all of your hard work :)

Valentine Banquet
On Sunday, February 12th at 5:30 PM the Thebes Baptist Church youth hosted and served a Valentine dinner for their guests and the church.  The menu was fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, biscuits, salad, cake and tea.  As usual, Patty Tapley did a great job of planning the meal and the decorations.  A special thank you to her for all of the work that she did.  We had many little helpers throughout the planning, preparation and cleanup process - you know who you are, so THANK YOU!

Following the meal we went upstairs and the Youth performed an interpretive movement to "I Can Only Imagine" with blacklights and white gloves.  They did a great job and we are proud of them for taking this opportunity to serve others.

There were LOTS of things going on in December:

On Monday, December 5th at 5:30 p.m. Patty Tapley  hosted a Christmas party for the ladies.  There were 13 ladies present and we had a great time.
Thank you, Patty!  Thanks also to David for playing Christmas music for us.
See party photos on the photo page.

On Friday, December 9th the church took a trip to Cobden First Baptist Church to tour "A Night in Bethlehem."  We will leave the church at 5:30 pm.  Bus seats are on a first come, first served basis, so if you haven't reserved a seat, get there early!

On Sunday, December 11th we had our Thanksgiving and Christmas fellowship dinner after morning services.

On Sunday, December 18th beginning at 6 p.m. the youth presented their Christmas Program, "His Name is Jesus."

October 30, 2011
The Fifth Sunday Singing on October 30th was a huge success.  The special music was enjoyed
by all and the Youth did an awesome job with their "white glove" interpretive movement to Selah's song, "Threshold of Glory."  We finished up the evening with chili, hot dogs and desserts.

October 26, 2011
The youth enjoyed a halloween party during their Wednesday evening meeting.  Fourteen young people attended and seemed to enjoy themselves.  We were concerned that the church may need to be sprayed for bugs because of what they found in their cups.  Be sure to ask one of the youth about that!  Special thanks to Patty Tapley for doing the shopping, decorating and most of the preparations.  Thanks also to Tim Goins and Ellen Dodson for helping us out.
Check out the photos on the photo page.

October 9, 2011
We had 32 people for our church fish fry.  Thanks to Everett Wareing and Tim Goins for cooking the fish.  The food was delicious and the fellowship was sweet.  We all had a good time and I'm wondering if it should become an annual event...

September 11, 2011

Pray for revival in America as we remember the tragedy on 9-11-01.

The church will have a picnic after morning services at the pavilion under the hill.  Please bring a covered dish and join us!

September 7, 2011
Steve and Daphene Huffman are excited to announce that their son, Jonathan, has returned safely from his tour in Afghanistan.  We thank the Lord for watching over Jonathan and ask that He continue to watch over our servicemen and women in harm's way.

August 17, 2011

The church had a surprise birthday for Pastor Raymond after services.   We were happy to meet his good friends, Kenny and his wife from near Springfield, Illinois.  We also welcomed a new family to the community, who had moved here from Arkansas.  The children enjoyed the cake and ice cream, and they were enthusiastic in their singing of "Happy Birthday" to their pastor.

August 9, 2011
Mrs. Patty volunteered to help the youth have a "Baking Day" before they have to go back to school this year.  We met at the church and they each helped make their own homemade personal pizza.  We ate our pizza and then made homemade chocolate chip cookies...and ate them!  We had enough left over for each of us to take some home.  Did they share with you when they got home?  While we waited on things to bake they watched videos from their VBS and Christmas program.  I hope they all had a good time.  Thank you, Mrs. Patty!

Missionaries in Guam
Our church will be supporting Bruce and Teresa Wareing, missionaries with Cadence International.  They will be serving in a Cadence Hospitality House, sharing the gospel and their lives with the military community in Guam.

Some of the things they will do include:
Serve military personnel and families in hospitality houses and ministries near military installations.
Serve meals, build community, and provide a safe place for military to rest during off-duty hours.
    Offer Bible studies and activities.
Evangelize, disciple, and counsel men, women and youth.
    Work alongside military chaplains.
    Expose people to world missions.

Bruce's parents, Paul and Jessie Wareing, are members of our church.  Please keep Bruce, Teresa, and their families in your prayers.

You can find more information about Cadence International at:   www.cadence.org

Missionaries in Ukraine
Ted and Debra Welch visited our church on Sunday evening,  July 31st.  They shared a Powerpoint presentation of their ministry experiences in Ukraine.  We had a time of fellowship (and some great desserts) after their presentation.  Their primary ministry is partnering with Ukrainians in planting churches and in leadership development.  God has also opened the door for a ministry in several orphanages.  Ted & Debra serve through the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE).  Please remember them in your prayers.

Fourth of July
The church had a great time at Pastor Ray and Norma McAfee's on July 4th.  The homemade ice cream was delicious and the fellowship was just as sweet!  Thank you both for your hospitality.

VBS 2011
Vacation Bible School was held June 20th through 24th and we had a great time at the "Big Apple Adventure."  Even though it requires lots of time and hard work, it is always worth it.  This year we had 5 young people who decided to ask Jesus into their hearts.  What a blessing, and a wonderful reminder that Jesus is what it's all about!
